SummaryThe Giving Tree is a story by Shel Silverstein. It is a lovely story about the tree and a man.
Once there stands a big tree. Every day, she waits for the coming of a little boy. When the boy is little, he would gather the tree’s leaves, climb up the trunk, and eat apples. Sometimes he plays hide-and-go-seek with the tree. The boy loves the tree very much. As time goes by, the boy grows older; as a result, the tree becomes lonely. Every time the boy visits the tree, he always tells the tree what he wants, and the kind tree gives him some thing that can help him. Finally, the tree satisfied all the boy’s desire. The boy becomes an old man, and the tree gives everything for the man.
Response
I think this story is lovely, because the tree is just like my mom, she always gives anything that I want. This meaningful story tells us that we should be thankful to the people who treat us well. After I read the story, I feel so sad. The tree gives everything to the boy, but she still loves him very much, but the boy doesn’t appreciate to the tree.
I think the boy is selfish. The tree gives all to the boy, but he is never satisfied. In the end, he didn’t say thank you to the tree. He is a very selfish man. But the tree still feels happy. She not only never complains to the boy, but also loves him very much. Whatever he wants, she always gives it to him.
When the boy grows up, he becomes busy. She feels lonely because he seldom visits her. But the boy isn’t a lovely boy anymore, If I were the tree, I would feel depressed.
