Since I am currently in tenth grade, it is hard for me to have a lot of spare time to read. I have so much homework and tests nowadays that I only have about 20 minutes of rest every day. Thus, I honestly don’t have much time to read novels. Also, I keep giving up on novels half way because the novels do not fit my taste. Thus, I believe that there are two important aspects in being able to read a novel outside of class during highschool: time management and finding the right book.I am going to try a new way of reading for highschool. I am going to try to make time for reading, not by putting aside other things, but by managing my time better. Books are actually quite light, especially the novels that only consist of one hundred pages or so. Thus, I have decided to carry a book with me wherever I go. That way, I can read while waiting in line or waiting for the teacher to begin the class.
I honestly think that it is unrealistic to make kids read a ton of books that they don’t like. Books are not meant to be read, they are meant to be understood. Thus, my advice for everyone is “pick a book you like”. Honestly, I don’t think that it is wise to read unless one wants to. Otherwise, the reader can just read the book and not get the meaning at all. I think that everyone should read something that they can connect with, as that is the only way that they are going to get much analysis in.
In conclusion, I think that the most important thing for anyreader to remember is: just carry a book that you honestly want to read, and you can read it when you have a few minutes of spare time. As that is how a person can enjoy reading and learning from a book. At the end of the day, I don’t want reading to seem like another work load to me or anyone. I want reading to be relaxing, and that is why my measures work. I think that my new way of reading will work as I am going to be reading something that I like, and it’s not like I will be sacrificing any of my free time to do it.
