Since this is a free topic, I would like to talk about what I learned from writing so many book reports and sharing them on 青春博客來.I started this course totally new to writing book reports. Although I had written a few essays before, it was all about analysing a specific aspect of the book and not about reviewing the book from a personal perspective. Thus, I started my reviews by including a huge summary and then putting my thoughts in bullet points.
My teacher was not satisfied with my way of writing reports, and she told me that I should do a thematic review of the books instead of just summary. At first, it was hard for me to do as she asked becuase I was not used to not putting “evidience” before my analisis. It was hard for me to write about how this made me “feel” and not what the author was trying to express in the stories.
At first, I was slow at writing, and sometimes I had to delete everything that I wrote and start again. Often, I felt lost at what I was supposed to write. It was as though I had to learn to write all over again. However, I kept on with my efforts, and I made a plan to write one report per day. I slowly improved. It was not until my thirteenth report that I started to get the hang of how to write book reports, and even then it was a struggle for me to get up to the word count. Even now, it is still hard for me to compose a whole review in one setting.
What I learned from this experience is that there are many kinds of writing, but skills like cohesion and a large vocabulary can help improve various kinds of writing. From my writing experience, I learned the importance of perseverance and training. Now, eventhough I am far from being an expert at writing book reports, I feel that I have improved through the experience. I want to thank 青春博客來 for this opportunity to learn.
