I think of reading as magic. If the words on a book can be thought of as the physical embodiment of the author’s ideas, then a reader is transmitting the author’s ideas into his or her mind when he or she reads. For me, reading is a truly intriguing experience, and I have two tips on how to make the reading experience even more enjoyable. The first tip I have is to not get stuck on words too much. At first glance, this may seem contradictory as many think that reading is all about the words. However, my suggestion is to focus on the ideas that the words present and not the words themselves. I personally like to maintain a good flow when reading, and do not like to be constantly interrupted when I am enjoying the story. Thus, I find it tiresome to have to look up every single word that I do not understand. Instead of doing that, I prefer to keep reading if I can understand the meaning of the sentence without the words that I don’t understand.
The second tip is to not get stuck reading every sentence in the story. This may also seem contradictory at first, but I feel that it enhances the reading experience as a whole. Some authors like to be very descriptive of scenery and how characters look, and sometimes I find that the descriptions of a certain character or place can last up to one page. In this case, I often skip the description part and continue reading without it so that I do not get bored. This also makes reading more enjoyable for me.
By not focusing on the words and sentences but on the idea of the book itself, I find that I have made reading more interesting for myself. By not focusing on the words, I am more able to keep a flow to my reading. Similarly, by not focusing on the descriptive sentences, I find that I can prevent myself from getting bored. By using more methods, I feel that I can enhance how interesting reading is for me.
