A book is like a door into another world, and the reader is the one who decides which world they want to travel to. Thus, it is essential to choose the right book in order to make reading an amusing experience. There is no one way to choose a book, and different ways suit different people. However, I personally choose books by first looking at the genre and then looking at the back of the cover.
It is important to look at the genre of the book, as it shows what the main theme of the book will be about. Looking at the genre ensures that the book will match the reader’s expectations. For example, a reader who wants to read about a coming to age novel may look for a book with a coming of age genre while a person looking for a love story may look at books with a romantic genre. By looking at the genre, one can have some more expectations of what the book will be about.
Another easy way to choose a book is to look at the back cover. The back cover of the book usually contains a short summary of the exposition of the book as well as an implication of the main conflicts presented. From this, the reader can make an educated guess about what the story is about and if they will enjoy it. By “judging a book by its cover,” the reader increases his or her chance of finding an interesting book.
By first looking at the genre and then looking at the back of the cover, I improve my chance of choosing a book that I like. Looking at the genre gives me a basic idea of what main theme the book will explore whole looking at the back of the cover gives me a basic understanding of what the story is about. However, these are just my ways of choosing the right book, and different people have different ways that suit them. Nomatter the way, the most important thing is choosing the right book, as that is the path that leads straight on to enjoying reading.
